Warm, creamy, and full of cozy spices, this caffeine-free chai latte is also dairy-free and made without any stovetop cooking. It’s a delicious little comfort you can make in minutes, even on low-energy days.

My husband loves chai lattes, but I’ve never been a coffee drinker. I wanted something warm, creamy, and full of cozy spices without the caffeine or the dairy. That’s how this easy rooibos chai latte came about.

I used Numi Organic Rooibos Chai Tea, and it smells absolutely wonderful before you even add the hot water! With a little almond milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, and ginger, I created a delicious homemade chai latte. Even my husband loved it!

Best of all, it takes just a few minutes with no stovetop cooking and no complicated steps.

Why This Caffeine-Free Chai Latte Works for MS

A cafe-style chai latte usually means a stovetop, a frother, and a lot of standing. This version skips all of that.

  • No stovetop. The tea steeps in a mug, and the almond milk warms in the microwave.
  • Only a few simple ingredients. There’s no chai concentrate to buy and nothing to measure out beyond a few spoonfuls.
  • Dairy-free and caffeine-free. It’s a cozy, creamy drink you can enjoy any time of day, including the evening.

My favorite part? This recipe doesn’t require standing at the stove. It’s quick and easy to make, which makes it especially helpful on days when energy or mobility is limited.

Why Every Ingredient Earns Its Place

Numi Organic Rooibos Chai Tea: This is the base of the latte. Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free, and this blend already has the warm chai spices built in. You can find it here on Amazon.

Unsweetened Almond Milk: It makes the latte creamy without any dairy. Choosing unsweetened lets you control the sweetness yourself.

Pure Maple Syrup: It adds gentle sweetness and a hint of caramel flavor that goes beautifully with chai spices.

Ground Cinnamon: Cinnamon gives the latte its cozy, bakery-style warmth.

Ground Ginger: I use just a pinch. It adds warmth without overpowering the cinnamon.

How to Make Caffeine-Free Chai Latte

  1. Steep the tea. Place the rooibos chai tea bag in a mug. This is the brand I use. Add ½ cup boiling water and steep for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix the almond milk. In a separate microwave-safe cup, combine the almond milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, and ginger. I love using my homemade almond milk for this recipe. If you prefer store-bought almond milk, be sure to read the ingredient label. Many brands contain preservatives, gums, and other additives. When I don’t have homemade almond milk on hand, I use Califia Organic Almondmilk. It has just three simple ingredients: water, organic almonds, and sea salt.
  3. Warm it up. Cover the cup loosely with a paper towel to prevent splatters. Microwave for 1 to 1½
minutes, depending on the wattage of your microwave.
  4. Combine and enjoy. Remove the tea bag. Pour the warm almond milk mixture into the tea and stir. Enjoy!

Easy Ways to Make This Chai Latte Your Own

  • Make it sweeter or less sweet. Start with 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Add a little more if you like a sweeter latte, or cut back a bit if you don’t.
  • Go easy on the ginger. I used only a sprinkling. It adds warmth without overpowering the cinnamon, but you can add a little more if you love ginger.
  • Make it frothy. If you have a handheld frother, give the warm almond milk a quick whirl before pouring it in.

Common Questions

Is this chai latte really caffeine-free? Yes. Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free, unlike traditional chai made with black tea. Always check the label on your tea box, since blends can vary.

Can I make it without a microwave? Yes. Warm the almond milk mixture in a small saucepan over low heat until steaming, then pour it into the tea.

What chai tea do you recommend? I used Numi Organic Rooibos Chai Tea, and I loved it. I haven’t tested this recipe with other brands, so I can’t promise the same results.

Can I make it stronger? Steep the tea bag a few extra minutes for a bolder flavor. Rooibos is smooth and doesn’t get bitter the way black tea can.

If you try this caffeine-free chai latte, I’d love to hear how it turns out. Leave a comment below. I read every single one.
