Congratulations! You finally made it to Week 12 of your MS healing journey – the final week. Take a moment right now and think back to Week 1. Remember how you felt? Maybe overwhelmed. Maybe hopeful but unsure. Maybe just tired of feeling tired.
Now look at you. You’ve been nourishing your body with leafy greens and colorful foods. You’ve learned to calm your nervous system. You’ve changed how you talk to yourself. You’ve built something beautiful.
This isn’t the end. This is your beginning.
Did you miss Week 10 or Week 11? Catch up whenever you’re ready!
What You’ve Really Done
You didn’t just follow a protocol. You changed your relationship with your body. You proved to yourself that you have power, so that you can feel better. That your choices matter.
Being perfect was never the goal. Progress was. And look how far you’ve come from week one. The central nervous system is one of the slowest systems in the body to heal. Give it time! Most importantly, don’t give up!
I remember when I first started back in 2004. It was hard and depressing. It was one week before Thanksgiving. I desperately wanted to join in with all the traditional holiday foods. Then came Christmas with all the cookies and sugary treats. I kept thinking – Why me! I felt like I was being punished and wanted to go back to my old ways.
Instead, I stuck it out because I was afraid of another horrible multiple sclerosis (MS) flare. The last one left me looking like I had a stroke, and I never wanted that to happen again.
I went “cold turkey,” but I don’t recommend that. It would’ve been easier (mentally and physically) if I had taken it step by step. One thing I’ve learned through this whole process is that you’re always learning.
Your New MS Healing Normal
This journey was never just about diet. It was about creating a long-lasting MS healing journey that supports your body, mind, and spirit. By now, these habits should feel natural. Not forced. Not like work. Just part of who you are now.
Your morning might start with a big glass of water and some flaxseeds in your smoothie. Your plate has more color than it used to. You notice when stress starts building up, and you actually do something about it. You catch yourself when negative thoughts creep in.
This is your new normal. This is healing in action. I know from experience that progress doesn’t happen overnight. Making a huge change like this takes time, so don’t be hard on yourself if you’re not where you want to be.
When Your MS Healing Journey Hits a Bump
Life is not perfect, and you will have bad days. Your MS symptoms might flare up. Life will throw curveballs. Some days you’ll feel like you’re back at square one.
That’s normal. That’s human. That’s not failure. The difference now is that you have knowledge. Knowledge that can help you move forward. Remember, your body isn’t broken. It’s just been missing what it needs to heal.
When brain fog hits, you know to check your hydration and maybe add some extra B12. When stress builds up, you know how to release that tension from your body. When that voice in your head gets loud, you have new words to speak back.
You’re not the same person who started this journey 12 weeks ago. You’re stronger. You’re wiser. You know your body better.
Building Your Sustainable Life for Your MS Healing Journey
The magic happens when you stop thinking of this as a temporary fix and start seeing it as your lifestyle. Over time, things change. You might be fine eating high-histamine foods now, but later they could cause problems. Don’t be afraid to adjust your diet based on what your body needs.
Some days you’ll manage stress better than others. Some days you’ll speak more kindly to yourself than others.
All of that is okay. What matters is that you keep coming back to these basics:
- Feed your body good food
- Stay hydrated
- Move your body
- Rest when you need to
- Be kind to yourself
The Happiness Connection
I’m a positive person, but stress always gets to me. It even set my progress back. It took me a long time to learn how to change the way I look at things. I even had to put up boundaries to protect my mental health. Today, I’m at peace and a happier person for it.
Joy is a choice you make, not something that happens to you. You don’t need to wait for your body to be perfect to feel good about your life. You can find happiness right now, right in the middle of your healing journey.
You become a happier person when you start taking care of yourself. You start to feel proud of yourself again. You start to trust your body again. You start to believe in your ability to heal.
You get to choose how you feel, regardless of what’s happening in your body. Healing and happiness can happen at the same time. You don’t have to put joy on hold until everything gets better.
I know MS can throw a person into a dark place, and it can be a struggle to get out. If you need to, see a professional. They can help you feel better about yourself. – Don’t let MS destroy you mentally.
Feeling good isn’t something you earn by getting well first. It’s something you can choose today, even while you’re still healing. Your happiness doesn’t have to wait for your health. You can choose to find good moments even on difficult days. Healing and happiness aren’t opposites – they can grow together.
When you feel good about yourself, your stress hormones go down. Your inflammation goes down. Your nervous system relaxes. Your immune system works better.
Happiness is medicine.
Your Support System
You don’t have to do this alone. Keep the people around you who celebrate your progress. Share your new habits with friends and family who want to learn. Connect with others who understand what you’re going through.
Some days, you’ll be the one giving encouragement. On other days, you’ll need to receive it. Both are important.
Humans are social people. They depend on others for conversations, togetherness, and to feel connected. Studies, like this one from the CDC, prove that social connections improve a person’s health.
What Comes Next
You’ve learned a lot in these twelve weeks of your MS healing journey. Now you get to build on it. Everyone is different, so do what makes you feel better. Maybe you want to try new anti-inflammatory recipes. Maybe you want to explore different types of movement. Maybe you want to become a happier person.
Don’t be afraid to try new things. I’ve tried many different techniques, from different diets to biohacking. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t, but you won’t know until you try. Listen to your body. Keep learning. Keep growing. I hope you’ve discovered that your MS healing journey is just beginning.
A Letter to Future You
I want you to write yourself a letter. Right now. Tell yourself how proud you are of completing these 12 weeks. Tell yourself the positive things you’ve learned, and what you want to remember on the hard days.
Put that letter somewhere safe. Read it whenever you need a reminder of how strong you are. Read it every night if you have to. Once you start having a more positive outlook, you’re body isn’t always on alert, so it can heal.
You Did It – Celebrate Your MS Healing Journey
Twelve weeks ago, you decided to make a big change in your health. Keep trusting your MS healing journey; this is only the beginning. Now, every bite you eat or green smoothie you drink is healing your body. You didn’t just follow a protocol. You changed your life.
