My MS Healing Journey – About Me

My MS healing journey began in 2004, after a severe flare-up that changed everything. I had already lived with multiple sclerosis (MS) for many years, since I was 15 years old. That flare pushed me to take a different path and start managing my MS in a natural way, beginning with food.

I’ve been managing MS naturally for many years now, and through it all, my family has been my greatest support. This photo was taken during one of our little family adventures, back when the boys were still young enough to want hugs in public.

Hi, I’m Cathy. I’ve had MS for most of my life. Like many others, I tried to stay strong and keep going even when it felt impossible. But after that major flare, I knew I needed something different. I didn’t want to keep getting worse. I wanted to feel better, and I believed there had to be a better way.

If you’re newly diagnosed or just learning about MS, the National MS Society has helpful information to get you started.

I began eating lots more vegetables and drinking more water — two simple changes that made a big difference in how I felt. I started learning about food, lifestyle, and emotional healing. I’ve also noticed that some of the tools I use — like my two Taopatches — only work well when I’m fully hydrated. If I don’t drink enough water, I feel the difference right away. Staying hydrated really is that important. I’m also slowly learning how to take care of my body in a deeper way. Stress has always set me back, so now I work hard at staying calm — not just for my mental health, but for my nerves too.

My husband and I raised our two sons on over 40 acres of land in the country. They grew up surrounded by nature, learning firsthand how powerful and healing the natural world can be. Life here has been full of adventure, some joyful, others challenging. Like the few times we fought wildfires to save our house. Country living has taught us strength, resilience, and simplicity.

Through it all, I’ve felt better by living more slowly and eating healing foods. I’ve also created simple routines that support my body and mind. I work hard on my mindset with patience and kindness, no more speaking negative thoughts to myself. I’ve been able to reverse some of my toughest symptoms, like heat intolerance. Now with MS and osteoporosis, I’m still healing, one day at a time. And yes, I’m working on healing my osteoporosis naturally too.

What I’ve Learned from My MS Healing Journey

MS In The Country is where I share what’s helping me feel better while living with MS in a quiet rural setting. This isn’t a blog full of medical advice or big promises. It’s a soft landing place for people like you and me, those who are tired of feeling alone, tired of feeling sick, and just want a gentler way to live.

Here, you’ll find simple posts about:

  • Steps you can take to manage MS naturally without medication
  • How to handle hard days with a calmer, more peaceful mindset
  • Practical tips and routines to help support your body and reduce symptoms
  • Easy ways to lower stress and support healing, even when life feels overwhelming

I created this blog to share my MS healing journey and offer ideas that may help you too. You won’t find perfection here. I still have hard days. But I’ve also found joy, peace, and a quiet kind of healing that comes from doing what I can, and letting the rest go.

You’ll find encouragement here, not pressure. My goal is to show you that healing doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing. It can be slow, gentle, and filled with grace. Whether you’re just starting to explore natural healing or you’ve been on this path for a while, I hope you’ll find something helpful here.

Everything I share is something I’ve tried myself or truly believe can help. From the way I eat to how I manage stress, I’ll be sharing real-life tools that have supported me, and may support you too.
